As of Tuesday afternoon, the Raiders were reportedly in discussions that would keep them in Oakland for one last season—but given what’s come already, it’s anyone’s guess as to what might follow. The bye always comes after a game in the U.K., so the off week was locked into Week 6. They ended up in Indianapolis in Week 4, one of just two Raiders road opponents from the Eastern Time Zone. “On schedule release day, everybody’s reaction is emotional,” said Mike North, NFL vice president of broadcast planning, who is on the scheduling committee.
New England finished ahead of the LA Chargers based on head-to-head victory. As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all games at Allegiant Stadium took place without fans. For convenience’s sake, there are a few options in the Bay Area, albeit with varying degrees of feasibility. Those options include sharing Levi’s Stadium with the 49ers, or going back to school for a year at Cal or, even less likely, Stanford. Meanwhile, the team's new stadium in Las Vegas is not expected to be complete until 2020.

In an unsuccessful effort to assuage those concerns, the league reconfigured the field such that the field was shortened to 80 yards and the last ten yards on each end was converted to end zones. The Raiders then began negotiating a lease with Oracle Park in San Francisco in February 2019; however, the San Francisco 49ers refused to waive their territorial rights, effectively vetoing the deal. The team briefly negotiated for sharing Levi's Stadium with the 49ers, but the proposal was reportedly rejected for costing more than the Coliseum's asking price. The 2019 season was the Oakland Raiders' 60th since they were founded, their 50th in the National Football League and their second under head coach Jon Gruden since his rehiring by the organization .

The Raider offense, taking over with just over four minutes remaining in the half, moved to the Bills' three-yard line with 13 seconds remaining before Derek Carr hit Jason Witten for his first touchdown as a Raider. John Gruden faced his former team whom he led to a Super Bowl XXXVII win over the Raiders in 2003. The Raiders jumped to an early lead after the Bucs were forced to punt on their first possession. A six-play, 70-yard drive was capped off by a Nelson Agholor touchdown reception from Derek Carr. Tampa Bay answered on the ensuing possession as Tom Brady scored from one yard out to even the score at seven.
Breaking News
The Raiders finished the season 7–9, improving on the prior season 4–12 record, but failing to make the playoffs for the third straight year and the 16th time in the last 17 years. Through the first 14 weeks of the season, TE Darren Waller has been on a tear and is on pace for the first 1,000-yard season of his career, while currently ranked sixth all-time among Raiders tight ends for receiving yards in a single season. Likewise, San Antonio or some other city could be interested in a one-year arrangement.
Might as well play in San Diego…the fans can just fight themselves. This whole thing is so “Raiders.” No fan base has been treated worse than theirs. The easy option would be to stay put in Oakland for another year. With, however, the city considering legal action against the Raiders and the NFL, the Raiders may not want to stay — and Oakland may not want them.
Stadium negotiations
On the ensuing possession, Carr was sacked and fumbled in the end zone and Deatrich Wise Jr. recovered the fumble to put the game out of reach at 36–13. With just over three minutes remaining, the Raiders were able to drive into Patriot territory and score on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow to make the final score 36–20. In the second half, the Raiders took the opening drive 75 yards in nine plays capped off by a Carr pass to Darren Waller to give the Raiders their first lead of the game, 24–17. A defensive stop by the Raiders gave the ball back to the offense, looking to score on their fifth straight possession, but a Carr fumble on the Saints' 40 ended the drive. The Raider defense continued to hold the Saints in check, forcing yet another punt.

Raiders wide receiver Rico Gafford celebrates as he runs to the end zone on a 49-yard touchdown catch during the regular season game against the Tennessee Titans. The Jaguars enter Week 15 on a five-game losing streak after most recently falling the AFC West's Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14. The Raiders played a complete game and dominated on both sides of the ball.
Oakland Raiders season
The Raiders would capitalize, moving 89 yards on 10 plays before Jalen Richard scored on a 20-yard run to give the Raiders a 31–17 lead with just under eight minutes remaining the game. The Saints quickly answered going 67 yards before Kamara scored from three yards out to narrow the lead to seven. With just over four minutes remaining in regulation, the Raiders, helped by a pass interference penalty by Janoris Jenkins, moved into Saints' territory and Carlson hit a 54-yard field goal to put the game out of reach at 34–24. The Saints ran out of time as the Raiders won the inaugural game at Allegiant Stadium and moved their record to 2–0 on the young season. The Raiders also reached 500 career wins encompassing regular season and playoffs, the third team originating in the American Football League to do so. Returning home to faced the undefeated Buffalo Bills, the Raiders quickly fell behind as the Bills moved 75 yards on the first possession and took the lead on a Gabe Davis 26-yard touchdown pass from Josh Allen.
After Vegas turned the ball over on downs, the Bucs scored again, on Brady's fourth touchdown pass to finish the game 45–20. In game one as the Las Vegas Raiders, the Raiders traveled across the country to play the Carolina Panthers. The Raiders got the ball first, but could accomplish nothing and quickly fell behind by three as the Panthers converted their opening drive into a 47-yard field goal. In the Raiders second possession of the game, Derek Carr hit rookie wide receiver Henry Ruggs on a 45-yard pass play to set the Raiders up at Carolina's one-yard line. Josh Jacobs scored on the next play to give the Raiders the 7–3 lead.
After a week of rest, back on the road for an early start to face the future Hall of Fame quarterback. Kirk Cousins out to prove his gargantuan contract was indeed worth it after a disappointing 2018. Denver will trot out Joe Flacco as their quarterback for the first time. Who will try to sack him remains a mystery, but the Raiders are sure to answer that question, in part, with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft a week from Thursday. If the Raiders decided to play at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara or University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. -- venues considered that already house NFL teams -- then that would have created headaches. That daunting stretch is what the Raiders are up against early next season.
Fox Sports’ Jay Glazier reported the Raiders are considering playing all of their 2019 home games in London. This seems impractical and CBS Sports detailed some of the Raiders’ temporary options for next season’s home games. High ranking Raiders official said today there is “no way” the team plays in Oakland in the 2019 season after the city filed suit today. Source said there are 5 or 6 cities the team will consider, including some that already have NFL teams.
The Patriots took over, but quickly turned the ball back over to the Raiders as Johnathan Abram intercepted Cam Newton at the Patriots' 38, returning it to the 14-yard line. The Raiders could manage nothing on the ensuing possession and settled for a 29-yard Daniel Carlson field goal and 3–0 lead. The Patriots tied it on their next drive on a 33-yard Nick Folk field goal. Two plays into the ensuing Raider possession, Carr was stripped of the ball and the Patriots took over at the Raiders' 42-yard line. The Raider defense held the Patriots to a 23-yard field goal as the Patriots took a 6–3 lead. The Raiders were forced to punt again on their next possession and the Patriots took over with about five minutes remaining in the half.
In the contest, QB Derek Carr passed for 263 yards on 25-of-34 attempts with two touchdowns for a passer rating of 115.2, his fourth time surpassing a rating of 115.0 this season. The game marked Carr's 41st career contest tossing at least two touchdowns in a game, the ninth-most occurrences in NFL history through a player's first six seasons. TE Darren Waller tallied six receptions for 73 yards in the contest and became just the third tight end in franchise history to surpass 70 receptions in a single season. Waller currently ranks second in the NFL among tight ends with 880 receiving yards in 2019, while ranking third with 72 catches. No tight end this season has more yards after the catch than Waller's 417 through the first 14 weeks of the year.
“The Giants want to do what’s best for Bay Area fans and would be open to the concept just as we hosted Cal Football in 2011 when Memorial Stadium in Berkeley was being renovated,” the team said in its statement. The latest rumors link the Raiders to the home of the San Francisco Giants, AT&T Park. Raiders owner Mark Davis has said “all options are open” when it comes to a 2019 temporary home.
